Al Lindsey Is A Man On A Mission And Can't Be Stopped

Very rarely, if ever, do we get a candidate like Mr. Al Lindsey who is running for the 6th Ward City Council position. Al has taken a path that just about everyone in this entire city should respect- He won the battle of attrition.

For years and years and years, Al suffered many defeats to the David Mosby/ BJ Watts family empire who seemed to be unstoppable. Once the victories began stacking up, this evil empire thought they would never be defeated by Al Lindsey.

If you ever visit the Courier & Press or City-County Observer message boards, you will often find Mosby/Watts supporters taunting Mr. Lindsey by asking him how many times is he going to run for office. They even joke that Al's kids and his kid's kids will run against the Mosby family and their kids.

But through all of the arrogance, the Mosby family, from top to bottom, has never been able to accurately measure the size of Al Lindsey's heart. You see, Al Lindsey has served our country by enlisting in the Army National Guard in 1975, switching to the Air National Guard in 1977, and in 2004, he was sent to Iraq to assist in Operation Enduring Freedom.

Al has the heart of a champion and the guts of a warrior. As Rudy Tomjanovich of the Houston Rockets reminded us in 1995, you never underestimate the heart of a champion...

Al is one of those candidates you will never be able to completely defeat, you can only hope to contain him. After the first and second election defeats to BJ Watts, most candidates would have given up for good. Luckily, Al understands the words that Jimmy Valvano, who ultimately died of cancer, gave us...

Never giving up is one of the most important things we can take from Al Lindsey's battle to win the 6th Ward City Council race. While some are only willing to give an effort once or twice, Al is willing to battle until he wins. Al reminds me of Colonel Sanders who was rejected an amazing 1,009 times before becoming successful.

So with all of that being said, how does Roberts Stadium factor into Al Lindsey's battle to win the 6th Ward? It's very simple, Al will be one of our most loyal supporters on the council. He was the first City Council candidate to pledge to save Roberts Stadium, and he has never wavered from this stance. Like Al Lindsey, we too must never give up on fighting to save Roberts Stadium.

Our Save Roberts Stadium movement has been written off as dead many times over. First, they thought the ball fields were a done deal. Then, they thought the current administration would knock down Roberts Stadium before leaving office. But they all were wrong. We refused to quit, we refused to believe the lies, and we refused to bow down to what was believed to be an insurmountable challenge.

Like Al, we have weathered the toughest storms and are still in great condition. This tenacity is beginning to irritate the living hell out of those who want to demolish Roberts Stadium at all costs.

Like I said before the spring primary, Al is the modern day version of Abraham Lincoln. When we were selling Save Roberts Stadium shirts at cost, Al made sure he ordered a couple. When I delivered them to him, he was initially just a few pennies short. I told him not to worry about it, that it's just a few pennies. Al refused and instead went all the way out to his truck to find the rest of the change to get the shirts. I have worked in politics here in Evansville, in Lexington, KY, in Arlington, VA, and in Seattle, WA. Yet, I have never met a more honest candidate than Al Lindsey.

Make no mistake, I also have a huge amount of respect for Al's challenger Shaun Short. If Shaun wasn't running against Al, I would have voted for him, but we just can't pass up this once in a lifetime opportunity to place a citizen like Al Lindsey on the City Council. Candidates like Al Lindsey only come once in a lifetime.

I'm also thankful that Al finally has a respectable candidate to run against as the past elections have resulted in him being sued over absolutely stupid things by one of the Mosbys and their supporters such as where he lives and what kind of patch he wore in one of his photos. These pointless lawsuits and battles will only make the victory this coming Tuesday all the more sweeter.

If we're going to have a legitimate shot at saving our legendary 55 year old icon, we need to make the right decisions at the ballot box. We need to VOTE FOR AL LINDSEY FOR THE 6TH WARD CITY COUNCIL POSITION!
